About

The Maple Street School is a parent cooperative pre-school whose mission is to provide developmentally appropriate early education and support to children from the diverse Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood and surrounding communities.

The Maple Street School was founded in 1978 by a group of parents in the community who felt the need for a preschool, rather than a daycare center, for their children.

MSS has been housed in many places including co-op members homes to rented space throughout the neighborhood. In September 2001, we relocated to our current home at 21 Lincoln Road. On Lincoln Road, we have access to Prospect Park, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Wildlife Center, The Audubon Center and other cultural institutions. Our space is equipped with several classrooms, a kitchen, a gross motor skills room, and a greenhouse.

We encourage students to explore the world around them based on their interests and development. We offer programs in art, music and dance to help children develop their language, intuition, concentration, reflection, reasoning and decision-making skills.

The Maple Street School is a nonprofit, racially mixed, nonsectarian program. The school is a parent cooperative and each member family contributes to the operation and maintenance of the school. Since its first year of operation, the school has hired professional teachers. The school serves children aged two through five years of age.
